Multi-cat families
How should I introduce two cats?
Go slowly: begin in separate areas, exchange bedding and scents, create positive experiences on opposite sides of a closed door, then progress to short visual and supervised meetings. Move back a step if either cat shows sustained fear or tension.
A good next step
- Give the newcomer a complete transition room.
- Do not force nose-to-nose contact.
- Expect the process to take days or weeks, not one meeting.
