Multi-cat families

Why have my cats suddenly stopped getting along?

Pain, illness, a frightening event, redirected aggression, resource competition or changes inside or outside the home can alter the relationship. Separate the cats safely if needed and arrange a veterinary check before attempting a gradual reintroduction.

A good next step

  • Do not force them to “work it out”.
  • Block views of unfamiliar outdoor cats if they trigger tension.
  • Restore plentiful, separated resources.

Know when to stop searching

Some questions need a vet, not a webpage.

Seek urgent veterinary help for breathing difficulty, collapse, seizures, severe pain, major trauma, suspected poisoning, heatstroke, or repeated straining without passing urine.

If you are unsure, call your regular vet or nearest emergency veterinary clinic for triage.
