Getting started

Should I adopt one cat or two?

It depends on the individual cats, your space, budget and time. A bonded pair may enjoy living together, but an existing adult cat does not automatically want a new companion. Ask the rescue about each cat’s history and social preferences.

A good next step

  • Budget for separate food, veterinary care and resources.
  • Choose a bonded pair when adopting two together.
  • Do not add a cat solely to fix boredom; enrichment may be the better answer.

Know when to stop searching

Some questions need a vet, not a webpage.

Seek urgent veterinary help for breathing difficulty, collapse, seizures, severe pain, major trauma, suspected poisoning, heatstroke, or repeated straining without passing urine.

If you are unsure, call your regular vet or nearest emergency veterinary clinic for triage.
