Food & water

How much should I feed my cat?

Use the feeding guide for your cat’s complete food as a starting point, then adjust with your vet for age, body condition, activity, desexing status and health. Measure the full daily amount, including treats, rather than continually topping up the bowl.

A good next step

  • Weigh portions for consistency.
  • Track body condition, not just the number on the scales.
  • Kittens, pregnant cats and cats with medical conditions need tailored advice.

Know when to stop searching

Some questions need a vet, not a webpage.

Seek urgent veterinary help for breathing difficulty, collapse, seizures, severe pain, major trauma, suspected poisoning, heatstroke, or repeated straining without passing urine.

If you are unsure, call your regular vet or nearest emergency veterinary clinic for triage.
